The Queen’s Club Championships takes place every year just before Wimbledon gets going. The event is held on grass courts in the Queen’s Club which is in West Kensington – London. For 19 year Queens was part of the Grand Prix tennis circuit. It is now part of the ATP World Tour 250 series tournament. The current sponsors of the event are AEGON. Previously Stella Artois sponsored the tournament for almost 30 years until 2008. The Aegon Queen’s Club Championships is held every year in June just a week after the French Open.



Grass courts are the least used surface for top-level events on the ATP Tour. The 2012 agenda only has 4 grass court tournaments in the run-up to Wimbledon. Centre Court can cater for over 6000 spectators. The highest total attendance for a week was in 2003 when over fifty two thousand people attended the occasion. The highest attendance for one particular day was was over 8300 on the 11th June 2003. In the 2004 singles tournament Andy Roddick set the world record for the fastest serve recorded at one hundred and fifty three mph throughout a straight-set victory over Thailand’s Paradorn Srichaphan during the quarter-finals. John McEnroe holds the record for the most titles with four singles and one double win. There are 7 other players with 4 singles titles each including Boris Becker. McEnroe holds the record for most final appearances on 7. Becker was the youngest winner at just 17 in 1985. Pete Sampras won the doubles and singles tournaments in 95 and 97. Sampras was also involved in the longest final beating Tim Henman over 151 minutes in 1999.
